Practical Life

Practical life activities help children learn how to care for themselves, become more independent, and develop good life habits including orderliness, courtesy, the ability to concentrate and complete one’s work.

Sensorial materials are used to help children develop their intellectual senses, namely visual perception, tactile impressions, auditory sense, and olfactory and taste perception. In addition, they help expand children's vocabulary and lay the foundation for future mathematics learning.

Mathematical concepts are introduced to the children using engaging, specially-designed Montessori materials and in daily life lessons designed to spark their interest in the subject while laying groundwork for more formal mathematics instruction.

According to scientific research, the most sensitive period for language learning and development is before age six. Therefore, bilingual education is highlighted in our curriculum to give children a basis for mastery of both Chinese and English.

Montessori materials focused on zoology, botany, history, geography, astronomy, and geology are employed in our classrooms to introduce different animals and plants to students They learn to care for these creatures as well as the natural environment around them through curriculums that also provide insight into the fascinating makeup of our planet and our mysterious universe. Through cultural activities, students become well-read and well-informed world citizens with a multicultural consciousness.

Exposure to diverse cultures, and particular emphasis on Chinese culture, is highlighted throughout our curriculums. In this course, students gain unique experiences in Chinese culture, especially through deeper learning about Chinese characters, their evolution and structure, and appreciation of Chinese calligraphy. Students are expected to learn 1,500 Chinese characters and understand their meaning. This enables students to read simple texts and become highly-capable readers in the future.

Children are our hope for the future. On campus, we adopt proven educational methods that support children’s understanding and care for their society, and that foster kindness, ethical behavior, and the building of strong character.

Our objective is to pass on important Chinese virtues and traditions and cultivate children's sense of social responsibility. Based on cultures and traditions of the East and the West, Etonkids invited Chinese and international experts to design our curriculums to align with the real needs of people in today’s society whether living in China or abroad. This includes common values in both Chinese and Western cultures. Given that most children in China are the only child in their family, some programs are designed specially to cultivate qualities such as care and love for others, cooperation, honesty, respect, courage, and confidence. Children will inherit time-honored virtues embedded in China's cultural heritage and learn to act on core ethical values while developing positively in an all-round way.

Kids are born with a love of music and music is proven to be an effective tool in improving cognitive abilities and brain development. Etonkids’ music courses carefully select melodies, songs and rhythmic elements to help students acquire basic musical comprehension of rhyme, beat, rhythm, tone and tempo.

Art is an essential form of expression for kids. Within a caring and supportive classroom environment, our students are encouraged to observe and explore different forms of art as they learn how to express themselves and interact with the world around them.

Sports and physical education are vital to a child’s learning and growth. Etonkids’ sports programs allow students to build physical strength and coordination in a variety of fun and engaging ways. In ample open areas, students learn how to play cooperatively with classmates while also respecting others’ personal space. Through our variety of sports programs and games, team work and sportsmanship are highlighted as instrumental social skills that extend to many areas of one’s life.
